Back in 2007, a young woman was living separately from her husband. During this time, she crossed paths with one Salim Rahaman Mondal and a relationship developed between them. Incidentally after a while the woman decided to reunite with her husband.

Unable to accept her choice, the accused, in a horrific act of rage, poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.

Based on the complaint of the mother of the victim, Durgapur Police Station registered Case No. 284/2007. For days, the victim fought for her life in the hospital but eventually she succumbed to her severe burn injuries.

The IO of the case SI Alok Kumar Mondal of Durgapur P.S. pieced together the evidence, examined witnesses, and built an airtight charge sheet against the accused.

On 14.07.2026 the Hon’ble Court found Salim Rahaman Mondal guilty and he was sentenced to Rigorous Imprisonment for Life along with a fine of ₹50,000 (with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if he fails to pay).

২০০৭ সালের ঘটনা। এক তরুণী তখন তাঁর স্বামীর থেকে আলাদা বসবাস করছিলেন। সেই সময়ে সেলিম রহমান মণ্ডলের সাথে তাঁর পরিচয় হয় এবং তাঁদের মধ্যে একটি সম্পর্ক গড়ে ওঠে। কিন্তু কিছুদিন পর ওই তরুণী তাঁর স্বামীর কাছে ফিরে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন।

তরুণীর এই সিদ্ধান্ত মেনে নিতে না পেরে, অভিযুক্ত ব্যক্তি চরম আক্রোশ থেকে তাঁর গায়ে কেরোসিন ঢেলে আগুন ধরিয়ে দেয়।

ভুক্তভোগী তরুণীর মায়ের অভিযোগের ভিত্তিতে দুর্গাপুর থানায় ২৮৪/২০০৭ নম্বর মামলাটি দায়ের করা হয়। হাসপাতালে বেশ কয়েক দিন ধরে মৃত্যুর সাথে লড়াই করার পর অবশেষে তিনি গুরুতর দগ্ধ হওয়ার কারণে মারা যান।

মামলার তদন্তকারী অফিসার (IO), দুর্গাপুর থানার SI অলোক কুমার মণ্ডল সমস্ত প্রমাণ ও সাক্ষীদের জবানবন্দি সংগ্রহ করে অভিযুক্তের বিরুদ্ধে একটি সুদৃঢ় (চার্জশিট) প্রস্তুত করেন।

১৪.০৭.২০২৬ তারিখে মাননীয় আদালত সেলিম রহমান মণ্ডলকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করে এবং তাঁকে যাবজ্জীবন সশ্রম কারাদণ্ড ও ৫০,০০০ টাকা জরিমানার আদেশ দেয় (জরিমানা অনাদায়ে অতিরিক্ত ছয় মাসের সশ্রম কারাদণ্ডের বিধান রাখা হয়)।
